Liverpool are to offer £11m for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi according to Marca (via the Daily Star).
Illarramendi has become a bit-part player at the Bernabeu and the Spaniard’s chances of making an impact under new boss Rafa Benitez have been dealt a further blow following the signing of Croatian international Mateo Kovacic.
Illarramendi made just ten La Liga starts in 2014/15, with former manager Carlo Ancelotti preferring to use Luka Modric and Toni Kroos as his central midfield options. Things don’t look like improving this term, despite the departure of Sami Khedira.
Real Madrid signed Illarramendi from Real Sociedad two years ago and it would be fair to say the defensive midfielder hasn’t had the best of times in the Spanish capital.

Liverpool still appear keen to enforce their midfield options despite a plethora of options in the heart of the park.
James Milner has been brought in to offer experience and know-how in a number of roles and Jordan Henderson has been tasked with the responsibility of replacing Steven Gerrard. The likes of Emre Can and Lucas can offer support, while Illarramendi could prove a decent addition to the Liverpool squad, especially if he could be brought in for the £11m fee cited by Marca (via the Daily Star).
