Liverpool eyeing €21m bid to complete BRILLIANT summer transfer business

Liverpool are interested in making a €21 million bid for Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan, reports the Daily Mirror.

The 26-year-old managed three goals and four assists in 28 appearances last season. However, he was more impressive in the 2013-14 campaign, netting nine times and assisting ten. It is likely the earlier form that has enticed Brendan Rodgers’ interest. Serie A champions Juventus are also keen on the midfielder.

The Merseyside outfit may be able to pick up the former Shakhtar Donetsk man relatively easily, if he still wants to leave the Westfalenstadion. The Armenia international’s agent revealed back in February that his client wanted to depart, but this may have changed with the arrival of Thomas Tuchel as their new manager.

“Henrikh wants to leave Dortmund at the end of the season,” his representative said, “We will have to wait and see what we can do.”

However, the Reds do already have a couple of very similar players to the attacking midfielder in Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino. As such, it may not be vital that they bring in Mkhitaryan, with other areas looking more in need of reinforcements. A defensive midfielder or centre-back may be more important to their chances of qualifying for the Champions League this season, after already signing James Milner, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez, Adam Bogdan, Nathaniel Clyne, Firmino, and Christian Benteke.
