Chelsea news and transfer rumours: £20m new signing, Jon Terry AXE explained, and £63.9m ace eyed

Jose Mourinho talks during a press conference at Chelsea Training Ground on August 14, 2015 in Cobham, England.

Chelsea have suffered a poor start to the season, and are yet to get a win under their belts.

This has led to some panic among supporters, with the team already five points behind Premier League title rivals Manchester City. There has also been movement on the transfer front, with a defensive reinforcement arriving and more rumours swirling.

Whoever the Blues do manage to sign, they will be hoping to help the side vastly improve over their next couple of games against West Brom and Crystal Palace. If they do not pick things up, the gap to the top of the league will become more and more difficult for Jose Mourinho’s men to bridge.

5) £20 million defensive reinforcement

Chelsea have signed Abdul Baba Rahman from Augsburg, reports the Daily Mirror. The 21-year-old has arrived for a fee of £14 million up front, with more then £6 million extra possible in various add ons. With Branislav Ivanovic looking out of form in the 3-0 loss to Man City, the Ghana international could play at left-back and allow Cesar Azpilicueta to take the Serbian’s place.

4) Manchester City defeat was a ‘fake result’

Manager Jose Mourinho has labelled the defeat to their title rivals as a ‘fake result’ according to the Daily Mirror.

“The best team in the first half won the game,” he said, “The best team in the second half was Chelsea for sure. We had a difficult first half, we didn’t create a lot and our goalkeeper made a few important saves.

“Second half everything was different. If the 1-0 was a doubtful result at minute 70, 3-0 is completely fake. At 1-0 Chelsea were the best team for the whole second half.”

3) John Terry substitution explained

Terry was taken off at half time at the Etihad Stadium, and Mourinho has explained his decision to take his skipper off so early in the encounter [Daily Star].

“He was not dancing in the dressing room and he was not having a bad reaction,” he said of the 34-year-old’s reaction, “The point was not to take John out, but to put (Kurt) Zouma in. I want to have my fastest player on the pitch and not on the bench. I know they are going to play counter-attack and long balls to Aguero. I want to have him on the pitch.

“Defensively we were quite fragile. In the second-half, everything changed. We brought our defensive line to the midfield line. We pressed them and we created chances. We had lots of space in midfield. They could not cope.

“When the game started and 10 seconds later you have Aguero behind the defensive line and facing (Asmir) Begovic, you get immediately the notion the start was not good. He had two or three saves with that fragility. We were defensively poor in the first half.

“The second half was a different story. They didn’t create nothing, long balls behind, counter-attack and everything was under control. The second goal was a mistake, third goal mistake.”

2) £63.9 million forward eyed

With Diego Costa looking like the only striker that can make an impact at Stamford Bridge at the moment, the London side are interested in a bid for Napoli star Gonzalo Higuain [Daily Star].

They may have to pay £63.9 million to sign the Argentina international though, with the Serie A outfit not keen on selling.

1) John Terry replacement on the radar

Stuttgart ace Antonio Rudiger is set to make the move to Stamford Bridge, according to the Metro.

The 22-year-old could be a great successor to Terry, having been a regular in the Bundesliga last season. He has also already made his debut for the German national team.
