Roberto Soldado‘s exit from English football is almost complete, as his soon-to-be former club Tottenham have confirmed that an agreement is in place with Liga BBVA outfit Villarreal.
Spurs announced the news via their official Twitter account on Friday evening, and the ex-Valencia hitman is set to bring an end to two miserable seasons at White Hart Lane.
The 30-year-old joined the north London outfit for a club-record £26 million fee in the 2013 summer transfer window [The Sun] and it was hoped that the forward could bring his excellent goalscoring record from Spain to England and help to fire Spurs into the Champions League.
Despite scoring a penalty on his debut against Crystal Palace, Soldado has failed help the club qualify for Europe’s elite club competition and has also only managed to find the back of the net on just seven occasions in the Premier League in two full seasons, a dismal return considering the price tag and the pedigree that accompanied him to England.
With the emergence of Harry Kane last season, manager Mauricio Pochettino has decided to offload Soldado, who is now expected to fill the void left by Luciano Vietto at El Madrigal.
