Manchester United could make new signing in time for Tottenham clash next week

Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Barcelona winger Pedro and could field the Spanish international in their side to play Tottenham Hotspur next weekend, according to trusted journalist Sam Pilger.

The Daily Express reported earlier this week that the £22m wide-man was on his way to Old Trafford after quotes from a club insider, in what looks a smart move for the Red Devils to replace Angel Di Maria as he looks increasingly likely to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, according to BBC Sport.

Pilger, who works for publications such as FourFourTwo and The Times Magazine, claims to have some information on the 27-year-old’s situation, tweeting that there is ‘increasing optimism’ that Pedro could be a United player in time for the start of the Premier League season next weekend.

United play Tottenham in their first game of the new season, and the inclusion of a player like Pedro would give them a big boost as they hope to get off to a winning start to kick off what they hope will be a successful season of challenging for the title.
