Man City hijack Tottenham move for £25m forward

Man City have entered the race to sign Tottenham striker target Saido Berahino according to the Sunday People.

The 21-year-old West Brom forward has matured into a capable Premier League marksman with great potential, the England hopeful bagging 20 goals in all competitions in 2014/15.

Etihad Stadium boss Manuel Pellegrini sold Stevan Jovetic to Inter Milan and Edin Dzeko is nearing a move to AS Roma (via ESPN), leaving Man City short of striking back-up.

Sales of the aforementioned duo would leave the Chilean manager relying on Argentine goal-machine Sergio Aguero and former Swansea City man Wilfried Bony, so a move to beef up the Man City attack would be wise.

Man City saw their homegrown contingent greatly reduced over the summer with Frank Lampard ending his loan spell at the club and James Milner, Scott Sinclair and Micah Richards all leaving on free transfers.

Pellegrini has already moved to resolve this issue by signing Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph from Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively but a move to bring in Berahino would further aid Man City’s push to meet Premier League guidelines regarding ‘home-grown’ players.

Tottenham have been strongly linked with an interest in Berahino (via the London Evening Standard) and the north London side’s need for fresh attacking options far outweighs Man City’s.

White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino had to rely heavily on England youngster Harry Kane and saw his supporting options fail miserably.

Roberto Soldado, Emmanuel Adebayor and Erik Lamela collectively netted just five Premier League goals in 2014/15.

The Sunday People state that West Brom want £25m for Berahino, who has represented the Hawthorns side since the age of 11.
