Marcos Rojo has landed himself in hot water with Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal and is set to be fined two weeks’ wages for failing to join up with the club on their pre-season tour of the United States, Mail Sport reports.
The Argentine defender was scheduled to join the rest of his teammates over the weekend after being given an extended break due to his participation in the Copa America tournament earlier in the summer, however, the former Sporting Lisbon defender missed his flight because he failed to renew his passport.
His failure to board the plane alongside compatriot Angel Di Maria angered van Gaal, but the 25-year-old defender is set to be punished alone as the former Real Madrid winger reportedly closing in on a transfer to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Rojo could be now find himself facing a fight to regain his place in the starting XI for the first game of the season against Tottenham next month as Daley Blind has impressed as the left-sided centre-back during United’s recent friendlies.
