French journalist Pierre Menes has taken to twitter to express his concern at the price Paris Saint-Germain are willing to spend to bring Manchester United’s Angel Di Maria to the Parc des Princes.
The winger moved to Old Trafford last summer for a club-record £59.7 million fee [Telegraph], but hasn’t been an overwhelming success in the Premier League.
10 assists has been an admirable return, but considering he arrived in Manchester as a Champions League winner, and taking into account the eye-watering fee, Di Maria has flattered to deceive.
He has subsequently been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with PSG understood to be keen on taking him to the Parc des Princes.
The Mirror report that the reigning French champions are nearing a £45.9 million deal for the 27-year-old, but one Ligue 1 observer is unimpressed with the fee.
Journalist Pierre Menes—who is a columnist and pundit on Canal plus—has expressed his dissatisfaction with the fee quoted for Di Maria.
“Overpriced for my taste,” the commentator began, writing on his @PierreMenes account when questioned about the Di Maria deal.
Menes’s concern is not shared by PSG centre-back David Luiz, however, who was a teammate of Di Maria’s at Benfica.
As reported by Sky Sports, the ex-Chelsea centre-back has expressed his delight at the winger’s imminent arrival.
“For us it is always very good if we can sign a fantastic player like Di Maria,” the defender began.
“I love him, he is my friend. I played with him at Benfica, when we were young.

“He is fantastic and will be fantastic for the team. He also knows how to play on the defensive side, he is an amazing player.
“Am I surprised it didn’t work out for him in England? No, it’s not about this. Sometimes you can not have luck in one place, but he is still a fantastic player.
“We want to win the Champions League. If it was up to me, I’d like to sign many, many players.”
