Why Vidal to Bayern Munich deal could be a bullet dodged for Gunners.
With a deal confirmed taking Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal to Bayern Munich this summer, here’s why Arsenal shouldn’t be too downhearted about missing out on this transfer…
1) He’s injury prone
In recent times, Vidal has struggled to play 90 minutes week, in week out, and it is rumoured that Manchester United pulled out of signing him last summer due to a recurring knee problem that has plagued him in the last few years. Given Arsenal’s record with injuries, this is another problem they could definitely do without.

2) He’s close to being past his best
Vidal is now 28 and has been playing at a high level for a number of years, but it’s clear that he won’t have too long left at the top due to his fitness problems, which would be more exposed at Premier League level than at Bayenr Munich, who sweep aside most Bundesliga opponents every week.
3) He’d be too expensive
Although it is not yet clear what Vidal’s fee will be, it looks like he could cost more than £25m and possible as high as £28m to bring to the Allianz Arena, which is far too much for Arsenal to pay for a player, especially one who, as mentioned, is close to the age of 29 and has had several injury problems.
4) He’d disrupt Coquelin development
After the superb form of Francis Coquelin in Arsenal’s midfield last season, it would be wrong to stall the Frenchman’s development by bringing in a stop-gap player like Vidal. The 24-year-old is an outstanding prospect and should be given the chance to make that defensive role his own for years to come.
5) There are better options out there
Even if Arsenal do enter the market for a new midfielder, there are more suitable options out there to consider, such as Sporting Lisbon starlet William Carvalho, Everton’s James McCarthy and Southampton star Victor Wanyama – all of whom are younger and more suited to the Premier League.
