Arsenal supporters have reacted in their numbers in social media following the news that Wojciech Szczesny is set to join Serie A giants AS Roma.
The Pole was replaced as the Gunners first-choice goalkeeper after a poor performance on New Years Day against Southampton, where he was at fault for both goals conceded at St Mary’s and to make matters worse he was caught smoking in the showers immediately after the game [via Guardian Sport].
He was dropped for the next league game against Stoke City which allowed David Ospina, who joined the club from Ligue 1 outfit Nice last summer, to make his long awaited Premier League debut.
The Colombian would keep his place between the sticks for the Premier League and European games for the remainder of the 2014-2015 campaign, however, both keepers face the prospect of limited first-team football in the new campaign following the arrival of Petr Cech from London rivals Chelsea.
It is expected one of Szczesny or Ospina will be axed by manager Arsene Wenger during the transfer window as it would be impossible to keep all three keepers happy and it’s fair to say that a reported move to Roma [via Metro Sport] has left Gunners fans happy as long as it’s not on a permanent basis.
