Chelsea transfers: £25m Blues target interested in Stamford Bridge transfer

Youngster keen on Stamford Bridge switch.

Everton defender John Stones is interested in a move to join Chelsea, according to The Sun.

The Blues have failed with an opening bid of £20 million for the England international [via the Independent] and is a player of real quality that Everton will not want to lose.

The Sun claim Chelsea will put in a second offer of £25 million, while Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright will then have to decide if the sum is too high to turn down.

Everton struggled last season, their 11th place placing being the first time in nine seasons that the Merseyside outfit had not secured a top half finish, with Europa League commitments seemingly having a negative effect on their Premier League form.

Stones moved to Everton from Barnsley two and a half years ago and has been a regular in Roberto Martinez’s first team set-up for the past two seasons and is now a firm part of Roy Hodgson’s national team set-up.

Currently Jose Mourinho uses John Terry and Gary Cahill as his first choice central defensive pairing but, at 34 and 29 years of age respectively, a move for youthful additions could be a sensible route to pursue.

Stones can also play at full-back and has filled both spots for both club and country.

Beyond the Everton man, the Pensioners have also been linked to Stuttgart’s talented young defender Antonio Rudiger [Metro], who could be a viable option should the Toffees continue to play hard-ball for Stones.
