Arsenal transfer latest: Gunners & club agree fee for French midfield battler

Arsenal close in on midfielder transfer.

Arsenal have agreed a fee with Galatasaray for the transfer of Mathieu Flamini, with talkSPORT reporting he will move for around €4m.

The long-serving Gunners ace has not been a regular in Arsene Wenger’s first-team in recent times, falling behind youngster Francis Coquelin in the pecking order last season.

Still, Flamini is an experienced member of the Arsenal squad, having served the club well in two spells at the Emirates Stadium, and has often been a popular figure among the club’s fans for his committed performances in that defensive midfield role.

It remains to be seen if this move means Arsenal are set to bring in a replacement, with the Independent reporting ealrier this summer that the club could be lining up an £18m bid for Bayer Leverkusen star Lars Bender, who would be an ideal candidate to fill that role in the event of Flamini’s departure.

The north London giants have already done business with Galatasaray this summer, selling out-of-favour German forward to the Turkish giants, and it looks increasingly like Flamini could be joining his old colleague after talkSPORT’s claim that this deal is edging nearer completion.

Arsenal have only brought in Petr Cech from Chelsea so far in this transfer window, and fans may be concerned that more buys will be necessary, with Flamini leaving the team a little short of depth in the middle of the park, even if the Frenchman was not first choice.
