Manchester City on verge of signing £11m Liverpool target, medical in process

Manchester City are on the verge of signing Liverpool target and Fulham star Patrick Roberts, reports the Metro.

The 18-year-old is expected to complete an £11 million switch to the Etihad Stadium. £5 million of the fee will be paid up front, while the remaining £6 million will be in add-ons. The youngster could be the third Englishman to join the Sky Blues in recent times, with Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph being signed already.

The England Under 19s international has also represented his country at Under 16s, 17s, and 18s levels, and is obviously highly rated. Fulham were reluctant to see one of their best prospects leave, especially after he made 20 appearances for them last season.

However, the player forced a move by handing in a transfer request. This bears some resemblance to how Sterling agitated to leave Anfield to join the Sky Blues this summer, but in a far less high profile manner. Roberts arrived at Wilmslow Hospital for his medical on Saturday afternoon.

City have beaten Liverpool to the teenager’s signature despite the player’s parents being from Merseyside and him supporting the Reds. With quality home-grown players at a premium, the Citizens will be happy to have wrapped up a deal for such a good young player.
