La Liga champions Barcelona are willing to allow new signing Arda Turan spend the first half of next season out on-loan but president Josep Maria Bartomeu has ruled out the possibility of the player joining a club playing in the Champions League.
The Catalan giants can’t register any new signings until January 2016 because of their on-going transfer ban and the idea of Turan leaving on-loan would be for him to stay match-fit and Bartomeu told Spanish media outlet RAC1 that the final decision rests with manager Luis Enrique:
“Loaning him out is a possibility,” Bartomeu said [via Mirror Sport].
“But the final decision must be made by coach Luis Enrique and it must be a purely technical decision,” he continued.
“It must be a team not playing in the Champions League,” he added.
Barca fended off competition from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United to land Turan and Bartomeu’s comments will likely be another blow to the Premier League giants as they would have no chance of loaning the player [Daily Star].
However, the news could boost Liverpool and Tottenham, who are both in the Europa League this season and had been linked with the Turkey international prior to him joining the Catalan giants [International Business Times].
The Reds have already strengthened their squad with no less than six players but are on the lookout for a Raheem Sterling replacement, while the lack of quality attacking players at White Hart Lane is something manager Mauricio Pochettino must be looking to rectify this summer.
