Manchester United are considering a swap deal which would see Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani move to Old Trafford, and Angel Di Maria heading in the opposite direction.
According to the Express, PSG have made a £40 million bid for Argentine winger Di Maria, while United have enquired about the possibility of bringing Cavani to the club.
While United—who value Di Maria at £50 million—would be unlikely to accept £40 million for the Real Madrid wideman, they may be prepared to consider a straight player-for-player swap in order to snare the Uruguay hitman.
Di Maria was on the brink of signing for PSG last summer, before moving to United, but the restrictions of financial fair-play ultimately prevented him from signing for the French giants [Sky Sports]. He subsequently moved to Old Trafford for a United club-record fee of £59.7 million.
However, the winger has struggled in England, and despite contributing 10 assists in the Premier League, he has come in for criticism for a series of underwhelming performances [Express].
While the player had previously been keen to stay at Old Trafford—according to the Express—he is now understood to be open to the possibility of moving to the Parc des Princes.
United legend Paul Scholes had previously urged Louis van Gaal to keep hold of the 27-year-old, but his pleas may fall on deaf ears should the chance to recruit Cavani come United’s way [Manchester Evening News].
