United identify replacement for departing star.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal reportedly wants to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani as the ideal replacement for departing star Robin van Persie, according to the Guardian.
The Red Devils could also be open to using Angel Di Maria as part of the deal, with the Guardian adding that PSG are keen on bringing in the Argentine international, who struggled to make the desired impact in his first season at Old Trafford last term.
Di Maria may now face increased competition for places in the United team in 2015/16, with players like Memphis Depay brought in, along with the imminent deal for Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger (via BBC Sport), who can operate in the same roles as Di Maria.
With that in mind, it would make a lot of sense for United to ditch another attacking midfielder to bring in a new striker, with Van Persie’s imminent departure to Fenerbahce (via ESPN), set to leave the club with only Wayne Rooney as a recognised option up front.

Although some feel Cavani has not fully settled in his time in Ligue 1, he has still managed an impressive haul of 56 goals in 96 games over the last two seasons, showing that he could still be capable of reaching the levels he reached at previous club Napoli, where he struck 104 goals in three seasons.
