Iker Casillas’ mother slams Porto then performs embarrassing U-turn, as Man United transfer target nears Bernabeu move

Casillas' departure from Real Madrid was handled incredibly poorly

Iker Casillas’s mother has performed a chastening U-turn after originally labelling her son’s new club, FC Porto, a second-tier side.

The legendary Spanish stopper ended his career-long stay with Real Madrid on Saturday, when he completed a move to Portuguese giants Porto.

The player’s parents initially expressed disappointment at the move, with Casillas’s mother, arguing that the veteran was both badly treated by Real and that he deserved better than to move to Porto, who she named a ‘Segunda B’ club via L’Equipe.

Similarly, the player’s father—via Globo—argued that his son had deserved to move to a side like ‘Manchester United or Paris Saint-Germain’ rather than Porto.

She has since backed down and in an interview with Cadena Copa, via L’Equipe, thanked Porto for signing her son, adding ‘a thousand sorrys’ in order to make up for her previous comments.

It remains to be seen whether Dragons fans will forgive the player and his mother for her inane comments, or whether they will hold her snub against the arriving superstar.

With Casillas having departed, Real may well look to step up their plans to sign Manchester United stopper David De Gea.

However, according to the Daily Star, United are keen to take the initiative in the situation, and have issued Real an ultimatum.

Either the club meet the Spaniard’s asking price in the next 24 hours, according to the tabloid, or the Red Devils will be happy for De Gea to run down his contract at Old Trafford.
