Casillas' departure from Real Madrid was handled incredibly poorly

Schweinsteiger to Man Utd among this summer’s deals that show there’s no romance in the game!

Club legends are departing right, left and centre so far this summer, showing that one-club men are a thing of the past and that neither clubs or nor players are doing enough to preserve that great tradition. Here’s seven of this summer’s deals that show the romance of the game is DEAD in modern football…

1) Schweinsteiger to Man Utd

With Bayern Munich set to sell Bastian Schweinsteiger to Man Utd for around £15m, it brings to an end a great and long career for the German midfielder with his boyhood club, in a sad end to his time at the Allianz Arena.

2) Casillas to Porto

In a shock move, Real Madrid will sell club legend Iker Casillas to Porto this summer, despite the Spaniard still being one of the top goalkeepers in the world and undoubtedly one of their greatest ever servants.

3) Pirlo to New York City

Still with another year on his contract, Andrea Pirlo will bid farewell to Juventus after a glorious four seasons, even though he is surely still good enough to contribute something to the team.

4) Drogba exit

Brought back for just one season, Didier Drogba will carry on playing despite leaving Chelsea, where he should surely have been kept on in a coaching capacity.

5) Gerrard to LA Galaxy

Frozen out by Brendan Rodgers in his final season at Anfield, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard seemed destined to be a one-club man after a long career with the Reds, but is now with MLS giants LA Galaxy for one last hurrah in the US.

6) Cech to Arsenal

Poorly treated by Chelsea after years of great service, Petr Cech chose to leave the club for London rivals Arsenal in a shock move, which will surely sour his reputation with the Blues fans that adored him for so many years.

7) Xavi to Al Sadd

Still a first-teamer at Barcelona last season, Xavi is another club legend who unfortunately won’t go down as a one-club man after moving to mega-rich Qatari club Al Sadd.
