According to reports in Spanish publication AS [via Express Sport] Los Blancos have agreed a deal with Espanyol number one Casilla and just need to settle on a fee to complete the signing.
With Mail Sport reporting this week that Real could be stepping up their efforts to sign David de Gea after looking like selling Iker Casillas to Porto, the arrival of Casilla is presumably to act as an understudy to the main number one at the Bernabeu.
The Red Devils have reportedly been adamant that they will not entertain offers for the Spanish shot-stopper unless one of Sergio Ramos or Keylor Navas is included in the deal [via Metro Sport], and the latter now looks less likely to be needed in Rafael Benitez’s squad.
United manager Louis van Gaal has also earmarked Ajax and Tottenham stoppers Jasper Cillessen [via Mirror Sport] and Hugo Lloris [via Sky Sports] as potential replacements for De Gea.
