Arsenal and Chelsea £21m striker target considering handing in transfer request
According to the Mirror, the Chile international has been the subject of a bid from Ligue 1 outfit Olympique de Marseille, but the English newspaper, quoting his agent, suggest that he may be waiting on Arsenal and Chelsea to follow through with their alleged interest this summer before making any decision on his future.
“Aranguiz prefers the Premier League,” said his representative Cesar Behling.
However, Behling refused to rule out a potential transfer to the Stade Velodrome, continuing: “but Marseille and Ligue 1 also have a great reputation and can’t be ruled out.”
The latest news on his future, as claimed by the Mirror, suggests that reports earlier in the week may have been false.
The Metro claimed that the Blues had agreed a £16.1m transfer fee with the Brazilian outfit; however, a move to Stamford Bridge, or even the Emirates, appears some way off completion, the Mirror implies.
If Aranguiz opts to play under Arsene Wenger next season, he would team up with international team-mate Alexis Sanchez; yet they could very well become London rivals if Jose Mourinho wins the chase this summer.
The 26-year-old put in some fine performances in this summer’s Copa America tournament – starting all six games – and was key for his country as they went on to claim the competition title, beating Argentina on penalties in the final.
He also featured for Chile at the 2014 World Cup, and impressed as a versatile midfielder with an impressive level of technical nous. He was also a key figure for current Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli at his Universitad de Chile side.
