Here is one position that every Premier League side still needs to improve before the season starts…
Arsenal, striker
The Gunners may have sorted out most of their problems at the back and eventually started playing with a defensive midfielder in Francis Coquelin, but Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott aren’t really good enough up front to lead you to the title
Aston Villa, centre-back
With Ron Vlaar being let go on a free, the Villans are in need of a defensive leader to take over from the Netherlands international at the back.
Bournemouth, centre-back
The Cherries have already signed Sylvain Distin for the role, but with the Frenchman now 37-years-old they will still need another to add defensive solidity to their attacking flair.
Chelsea, striker
With Didier Drogba having left the club, Loic Remy being linked away, and Diego Costa’s dodgy hamstrings, the Blues will need another forward to add to Radamel Falcao.
Crystal Palace, striker
Reduced to signing Yaya Sanogo on loan last season, Alan Pardew could really do with a proven goalscorer up front. With wingers like Jason Puncheon and Wilfried Zaha someone who can head would be perfect.
Everton, goalkeeper
Tim Howard was very error prone last season, and if the Toffees are going to make good on their stated aim of getting in to the Champions League they will need someone better than the American between the sticks.
Leicester City, centre-mid
Esteban Cambiasso has yet to confirm that he is staying with the Foxes, and even if the Argentinian does he could do with a midfield partner. However, much will likely depend on who their new manager is.
Liverpool, striker
Having struggled without Luis Suarez last season, the Reds will need a top-class forward if they are going to break back in to the top four. Daniel Sturridge’s injury problems make this even more important.
Manchester City, centre-back
Even inspirational captain Vincent Kompany looked error-prone last season, and perhaps it is time the Belgian had a partner equal to him at the back. It could be the difference between winning and losing the title in the next campaign.
Manchester United, striker
With Radamel Falcao’s loan ending and Robin van Persie getting closer to an exit, Wayne Rooney could be the only senior forward left in a couple of weeks. If Louis van Gaal is to improve on their fourth place finish from last time a goalscorer will be needed.
Newcastle United, left-back
With Ryan Taylor and Jonas Gutierrez having left the Magpies, a left-back to match Daryl Janmaat on the right would be a great acquisition for Steve McLaren.
Norwich City, centre-back
Good going forward with former Celtic man Gary Hooper, Nathan Redmond, and Wes Hoolahan, but Alex Neil’s side could do with some more solidity at the back.
Southampton, centre-mid
With Morgan Schneiderlin looking likely to leave the Saints, they will need a replacement to play alongside Victor Wanyama in the middle. The pair were vital to their eighth place finish last time round, so it will be an important acquisition for Ronald Koeman.
Stoke City, striker
If the Potters complete the signing of Shaqiri, then it is only fair to him and Bojan that there is a proven finisher for them to feed with chances.
Sunderland, centre-back
John O’Shea is now 34-years-old, and a younger, quicker replacement will surely be high on Dick Advocaat’s to=do list this summer.
Swansea City, centre-mid
If the Swans are going to push on in to European contention next time round, then they will likely need a more reliable engine room than Jonjo Shelvey. At the very least an experienced head to feature alongside him is a must.
Tottenham, striker
Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor aren’t the best players to rely on, and Harry Kane won’t score 32 goals every season. Mauricio Pochettino will need a striker if he is going to make a concerted effort to get in to the top four.
Watford, centre-back
Troy Deeney and co. have given the Hornets a potent front line, but they could do with an experienced Premier League centre-back to go with that.
West Brom, winger
For a Tony Pulis team, which usually rely on crosses, the Baggies have little to brag about out wide. With Chris Brunt’s left foot on one wing, they could do with a similarly able crosser on the right.
West Ham, centre-mid
If the Hammers are able to sign Alex Song permanently then this won’t be a problem, but if they don’t than a partner for Mark Noble will be a necessity.
