The former Atletico Madrid star regrouped with his Red Devils team-mates for pre-season at the club’s Carrington training base this week [via the Daily Mail], but it seems the 24-year-old really could be saying farewell to England soon.
According to El Confidencial, the Liga BBVA giants have agreed a €40m (£28.6m) transfer fee with United, and the Spain stopper is close to putting pen-to-paper on a six-year contract worth €5m per-annum – which is said to be €3m less than the extension the Premier League heavyweights had tabled earlier in the season.
The report states that with De Gea’s move to the Santiago Bernabeu now imminent, Iker Casillas has been given the green light to leave the Spanish capital this summer, with suggestions that the goalkeeper – who has served Los Blancos for the last 25 years – has been ‘forced’ out of the club.
The 34-year-old looks set to remain in the Champions League next season, and FC Porto have emerged as the favourites for his signature, with his agent, Carlo Cutropia, stating that the Spain international is ‘enthusiastic’ about the offer received from the Primeira Liga heavyweights:
“An offer from Porto exists and Casillas is enthusiastic with that possibility,” Cutropia told Spanish newspaper Marca.
In terms of replacing De Gea at the Theatre of Dreams, El Confidencial claim that Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris was a top target for Louis van Gaal; however, with Spurs refusing to sell the France international this summer, the former Netherlands manager has turned his attention to Galatasaray’s Fernando Muslera.
