With Chelsea completing a deal to sign former Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao on loan from AS Monaco, here’s a look at five targets the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal can now pursue without competition from the Blues…
1) Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)
Tracked by Chelsea this summer and in previous years, a deal for Falcao presumably now ends their interest in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, which will be a big boost for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham in particular.
2) Zlatan Ibrahimovic (PSG)
Another big name linked with Chelsea this summer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic would surely not settle for battling Diego Costa and Falcao for a place in the Blues starting lineup, meaning the likes of Liverpool and AC Milan could be in luck in trying to sign him this summer.
3) Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)
One of the best young strikers in the world, a host of top clubs have been chasing Alexandre Lacazette after his 31 goals for Lyon last season, but Chelsea cooling their interest should be good news for Arsenal and Liverpool.
4) Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan)
Strongly linked with Chelsea back in January, Inter Milan starlet Mauro Icardi looks like another top striker who won’t be making his way to Stamford Bridge this summer, putting Liverpool or Atletico Madrid in the driving seat if they pursue their interest.
5) Charlie Austin (QPR)
Wanted by a number of top clubs, QPR striker Charlie Austin was another surprise target for Chelsea this summer, but now seems more likely to move to Newcastle United, Aston Villa or Leicester City.
