Chelsea could be boosted in their efforts to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Arda Turan this summer after Barcelona’s move for the Turkish international stalled, according to reports in Spain.
A report from AS this morning suggests that Barca’s current board are not ready to push through a move for the Atletico winger, who would likely only move to the Nou Camp after the club’s presidential elections on the 18th of July.
AS adds that Turan may now see Chelsea as his preferred option for his next club, though the Blues have not yet made a concrete offer to bring the skillful player to Stamford Bridge.
Reports from the Daily Express earlier this week claim that the Premier League champions are hoping to bring Turan in this summer, but that it may rest on the futures of players like Juan Cuadrado and Filipe Luis, who will have to leave first.
Turan has a fine record of 22 goals and 32 assists in his four seasons at the Vicente Calderon, during which time he has established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe, helping his club to a La Liga title win in 2014, as well as to the Champions League final.
The 28-year-old has also scored in his only appearance at Stamford Bridge so far, netting against Chelsea in their Champions League semi-final win in the season before last, showing that he is a player who can have an influence on the big games.
