Chelsea have completed the signing of AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan in what must be one of the most bizarre moves of the summer. Here’s a list of players one wouldn’t exactly consider ‘world class’ who bettered the former Manchester United man’s tally of four goals last season…
1) Peter Crouch – 10
Former Liverpool and England goal machine Peter Crouch is still going strong, netting ten times in all competitions for Stoke last season.
2) Danny Welbeck – 8
A pretty poor signing from Arsenal, but former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck still doubled the total that Falcao managed for the Red Devils.
3) Gabriel Agbonlahor – 6
Remember him? Aston Villa bench-warmer Gabriel Agbonlahor could do a better job than Falcao at the moment, netting six goals last season.
4) Charlie Adam – 7
Not even a striker, former Liverpool flop Charlie Adam even contributed seven goals from midfield last season, including a long-range cracker against Chelsea.
5) Andy Carroll – 5
Even the permanently injured Andy Carroll is outscoring Falcao at the moment, with five in total for West Ham last season in limited appearances.
6) John Terry – 8
With eight goals for Chelsea last season, John Terry is right to feel aggrieved at not being given a chance up front with this amatuer coming in.
7) Phil Jagielka – 6
Everton’s 32-year-old defender Phil Jagielka is another player with a better eye for goal than Falcao, scoring six last season, including a belter against Liverpool.
8) Shane Long – 7
Not renowned for his goalscoring, Shane Long continued that reputation for Southampton last season, though he still got three more than Falcao.
9) Papiss Cisse – 11
Not what most people would think of as a good player, Papiss Cisse is a beast in front of goal compared to Falcao, with 11 goals for Newcastle in 2014/15.
10) Marouane Fellaini – 7
The Belgian who couldn’t get into the team for months, Marouane Fellaini still outscored Falcao at Old Trafford, netting seven times from midfield.
