Liverpool to launch SHOCKING bid for Manchester United star

James Milner has arrived to improve their midfield. Adam Bogdan will provide competition for Simon Mignolet between the sticks. Danny Ings will hopefully improve on Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini, and Mario Balotelli up front. Joe Gomez, and according to the Liverpool Echo soon Nathaniel Clyne, will shore up the shaky defence. Roberto Firmino will ease the creative burden on Philippe COutinho while also adding more goals.

So what more could the Reds do this summer? Here are five signings, any one of which could complete a good lot of business…

5) Carlos Bacca, Sevilla

28 goals in 57 appearances last season from the Colombia international helped the La Liga side to qualify for the Champions League through the Europa League. The 28-year-old even managed a brace in the final! The striker could add the cutting edge that Daniel Sturridge has been unable to due to injuries at Anfield. The Liverpool Echo has linked the player to the Reds.

4) Pedro, Barcelona

Even though the 27-year-old recently signed a new contract to keep him at Barca until 2019, Brendan Rodgers hasn’t been put off according to the Daily Star. The winger could bring the experience of winning everything there is to win, as well as being a perfect replacement for Raheem Sterling. The England international looks increasingly likely to leave according to the Daily Mirror.

3) Christian Benteke, Aston Villa

Having just come off the back of 13 goals in his last 16 games, the 24-year-old looks back to his best. Similarly to Bacca, the Belgian could bring a clinical edge to the Reds’ attacks, which were all too often toothless last season. The Daily Mirror has linked them to a £25 million bid, but with the striker’s release clause being £32.5 million they may have to up that.

2) Asier Illarramendi, Real Madrid

One thing that Liverpool could really do with is a proper defensive midfielder. Illarramendi would bring this, and the Reds are keen to sign him according to MARCA. Remember, Los Blancos paid Real Sociedad £34 million [BBC] for the Spaniard only two seasons ago, showing his quality.

1) Mateo Kovacic, Inter Milan

Possibly the perfect replacement for Steven Gerrard. The Croatia international is suited to playing in the ‘quarter-back’ role that Anfield legend inhabited in his latter years, or further forward like he did earlier on. As well as this, the midfielder is just 21-years-old meaning he will only improve from the player who is a already a key star at the San Siro. The Daily Telegraph have linked Liverpool to the youngster.
