Atletico Madrid attacking midfielder Arda Turan has been linked with a big move to the Premier League this summer with either Manchester United or Chelsea, so here’s five facts about the in-demand wide-man…
1) Most expensive Turk
Upon joining Atletico Madrid from Galatasaray, Turan became the most expensive Turkish player of all time at just £8.5m – a record he could now smash this summer if he ends up moving to England in what would likely be a move in the region of £30m.
2) First Turkish La Liga winner
After playing a pivotal role for Atletico Madrid in their superb title win in Spain last season, Arda became the first ever Turkish La Liga winner. If he moved to a Premier League club, he could be the first Turkish title winner in England as well, provided he could help Chelsea retain their crown or do enough to lift United back to the top of the table.
3) Leadership
Known for being a hard worker and committed performer, Turan is a real leader on the field and has the battling qualities to succeed in the Premier League. He is also the captain of the Turkish national team.
4) Temper problems?
Despite being a good example with his commanding performances on the pitch, Turan has notably lost his temper in a big way in recent times, throwing his boot at a linesman in Atletico’s Copa del Rey defeat to Barcelona last season. Still, he wouldn’t be the last top player to lose his head.
5) Scored against Chelsea
Turan has already made his mark at Stamford Bridge, scoring a crucial goal for Atletico in the 3-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals in the 2013/14 season.
