Liverpool rumours

Liverpool have been by far the busiest club of the summer transfer window so far, so here’s a ranking of their five new additions, from worst to best…

5) Adam Bogdan

Not a signing meant to wow the crowds, Adam Bogdan is easily the least exciting new addition by Liverpool so far. Brought in to be backup goalkeeper, the Hungarian shot-stopper arrives from Bolton Wanderers and raises more questions than answers really, such as ‘why aren’t Liverpool buying a keeper to truly compete with Simon Mignolet?’

4) Joe Gomez

A promising young defender poached from Charlton Athletic, Joe Gomez looks a good talent and can play in a number of different defensive positions. Still, it’s hard to see the 19-year-old becoming a first-team regular for Brendan Rodgers’ side anytime soon, which means he cannot be the most effective signing for the season ahead.

3) Danny Ings

Despite a decent season for Burnley, Danny Ings is not really the big-name Luis Suarez replacement Liverpool fans will have had in mind for signings up front. The young England forward may be cheap, but arguably still doesn’t look worth the investment, with a club like Liverpool simply needing to aim a bit higher.

2) James Milner

A fine signing on a free transfer, there’s no doubt former Manchester City man James Milner could offer a lot to this Liverpool team in a number of different midfield roles. City were keen to keep the England international, who showed some superb form last season and who will add some experience to this youthful Reds side.

1) Roberto Firmino

Undoubtedly the pick of the bunch, exciting Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino joins for around £29m from Hoffenheim after a couple of highly effective seasons in the Bundesliga. Expected to form a fine partnership with fellow Samba starlet Philippe Coutinho, this could be the signing that helps fire the club back into the top four.
