Liverpool edge closer to impressive £15m Real Madrid midfielder signing
The Spanish youngster joined Liverpool from Sevilla in the summer on 2013 for a fee believed to be in the region of £6.8million [via BBC Sport], but started just two matches that season, one in the Capital One Cup against Notts County and then FA Cup third round tie against Oldham.
He failed to impress in both games and last summer he was shipped back to Spain with Malaga on a two-year loan deal.
Initially he showed signs of the potential that convinced Rodgers to sign him after scoring on his debut against Athletic Bilbao and the winner against Elche just 27 seconds after coming on as a substitute in December [via Mail Sport].
However, following the winter break in Spain, his form soon dipped and was subsequently dropped by manager Javi Gracia and his last first team outing came against Cordoba back in March [via WhoScored].
His future is now up in the air as Liverpool Echo reported that Malaga have cancelled the loan deal, but Rodgers has no plans to use him at Anfield next season.
