Manchester City plot controversial bid to sign Manchester United star
Hummels is currently playing for Borussia Dortmund, while Howedes plying his trade at Schalke 04. The Red Devils have been linked to the pair as they look to improve their back line after having to rely heavily on goalkeeper David De Gea last season. Their Germany national teammate Ozil thinks that United are looking in the right place.
He said: “It may be hard for the Premier League giants to prise the pair away from their current clubs though. Howedes is captain of Schalke and as a result the club will obviously be aiming to keep him if they can. Meanwhile BVB sporting director Michael Zorc has claimed that he already has an agreement with Hummels to stay at the Westfalenstadion, according to Sky Sports.
However, with the departure of manager Jurgen Klopp and their recent disappointing campaign it would be understandable if the 26-year-old wanted to leave.
