England starting XI v Slovenia: No place for in-form Arsenal winger as Andros Townsend starts

Roy Hodgson has named his England starting XI for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia on Sunday evening and there are a number of surprises, including in-form Arsenal forward once again left on the bench.

The Three Lions have a perfect record in the qualification group so far having won all five games and will be hoping to complete the double over the Slovenians after winning the reverse meeting 3-1 at Wembley back in November.

Take a look at the team in full via England’s official Twitter account:

Manager Hodgson has gone with Manchester United defender Phil Jones at right-back once again, which means there is no place for Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne despite his excellent form this year.

The other strange choice was to select Tottenham winger Andros Townsend ahead of Walcott, who scored four goals in his last two games for Arsenal towards the end of the season.

Captain Wayne Rooney starts again and could become England’s all-time record goalscorer if he nets a hat-trick against Slovenia.
