Manchester United could face competition from Juventus in their bid to sign Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic this summer, according to The Sun.

The Red Devils are supposedly admirers of the Croatian international, who has only spent one season in Spain following a move from Bayern Munich last summer.

Despite a decent return of 20 goals in 37 games for Diego Simeone’s side, it looks as though Mandzukic could be on the move again this year, with The Sun stating that Juventus are lining up a bid of around £20m for his services.

Although the article adds that Atletico would want closer to £25m for the 29-year-old, that still seems fairly cheap for a proven player who has scored goals and won major honours in a good career so far.

Juve’s interest in Mandzukic could stem from reports in Gazzetta dello Sport earlier this week that suggest Carlos Tevez wants out of the Turin club this summer. The two players are similarly hard-working and physical front-men and there’s no doubt Mandzukic could suit the style of play deployed by Massimilano Allegri.

With the Metro adding that Liverpool are chasing Tevez, this potential move for Mandzukic could end up being good news for the Reds as they look for big-name signings up front this summer, though it would leave United needing to look elsewhere for new arrivals after deciding not to extend Radamel Falcao’s stay at the club after a disappointing season on loan in 2014/15.

However, the club did yesterday confirm (via their official site) that a deal had been completed to sign Memphis Depay from PSV, and the Netherlands international is a player capable of playing as a striker, despite also being effective out wide.
