Arsenal transfer gossip
With news that Porto star Jackson Martinez is set to snub an offer from Arsenal this summer and join AC Milan, here’s a look at six other realistic striker targets for the Gunners to consider bringing in as they eye upgrades on the likes of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck…
1) Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)
One name linked several times with a move to Arsenal is PSG front-man Edinson Cavani, who seems likely to be on his way out of the Parc des Princes this summer. Manchester United are also after the prolific Uruguayan, but there’s no doubt the Gunners could do with his quality up front.
2) Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
Linked with a move to Manchester United and Liverpool, Arsenal have also been mentioned as candidates to sign out-of-favour Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema this summer, with the Frenchman possibly available for as little as £35m.
3) Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli)
Also on Chelsea’s radar, Napoli star Gonzalo Higuain would be a fine buy for Arsenal up front, and it has been suggested that Arsene Wenger could try again to sign the Argentine, having missed out on him back in the summer of 2013.
4) Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)
A superb Premier League striker who will surely be moving this summer, Christian Benteke would be a great buy up front for Arsenal, with the prolific Belgian having a £32.5m release clause in his Aston Villa contract.
5) Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)
One of the best players in France this season, Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette has been compared with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, and the Gunners are among the clubs eyeing the immensely talented 23-year-old this summer.
6) Mauro Icardi (Inter Milan)
Another promising young talent, Inter Milan starlet Mauro Icardi has not yet been linked with Arsenal, but the Gunners would certainly be wise to rival Chelsea and Liverpool for the signing of the 22-year-old Argentine, who netted 24 goals and provided 7 assists in all competitions this season.
