The Reds have been linked to the right-back by the Metro. The defender could be a replacement for out-of-contract Glen Johnson. Manager Brendan Rodgers is short in the full-back area following a long-term injury suffered by Jon Flanagan potentially compounding the problem caused by the departure of the former England international.
Montoya is interested in leaving the Camp Nou after struggling for game time in their treble-winning season.
The 24-year-old played just 11 times for the Catalan club last season, playing second fiddle to Dani Alves on the right and Jordi Alba on the left for much of the campaign. This was after he only stayed with the Blaugranas to cover for them during their transfer ban, according to the MARCA article.
However, with the recent announcements that Aleix Vidal will be joining Barca from Sevilla and Alves having signed a new deal with the side [via The Guardian], they could be willing to let him go. The Merseyside club could be the lucky team to benefit from this.
