The Bosnian stopper spoke of his desire to play at a higher level than the Potters back in 2013 and, at 28-years-old, he should be seeking a move to a Champions League club now, despite goalkeepers having a much longer sell-by date than out-field players.
This season Begovic kept nine clean sheets and is firmly established as one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers. Nonetheless, while a keeper held in high regard, his lack of experience on the European stage could make him a gamble.
