The Manchester United striker made only one start under Louis van Gaal following his return from injury during the final weeks of the season.

That game was the 1-0 home defeat by West Brom where the Dutchman failed to earn the Red Devils at least a point when he had a penalty saved by Baggies keeper Boaz Myhill late on.

van Persie was an unused substitute in the goalless draw with Hull City on the last day of the season and admits he doesn’t want to face a similar situation next season:

“I want to play first-team football and to play every week at a high level at a big club,” he told Mirror Sport.

“The club will have to do some homework and so will I. I will take everything into consideration and weigh up what is the best solution in this strange situation,” van Persie revealed.

Should the 31-year-old former Arsenal man opt to seek a new challenge in the summer, there would be no shortage of teams chasing his signature, with the likes of Juventus and Fenerbahce reportedly watching developments closely.
