The Daily Mail cite reports from Russia claiming that the Colombian is on the radar of Andre Villas-Boas, as the Russian champions want to pull off an audacious double deal for Falcao and midfielder Joao Moutinho. AVB wants to spend big so that the club can prove more of a threat in the Champions League.
The pair worked together previously at FC Porto when the former Chelsea boss led the Portuguese side to Europa League triumph in 2011, and he believes he is the man capable of reviving the forward’s career.
AVB, however, will have to contest with his former club Chelsea for his signature, as there have been reports [via the Daily Star] that the Premier League champions have made official contact with Falcao over a summer move.
Manchester United had the option of signing Falcao on a permanent basis, but Louis van Gaal wasn’t prepared to meet the £42.3m price written into the deal. After the Red Devils’ final game of the season, the club confirmed that he would return to AS Monaco [confirmed on their official website].
It’s been well covered that the Colombia international, who will take part in this summer’s Copa America, failed miserably to live up to expectations during his loan stint at Old Trafford – scoring just four Premier League goals.
Since his value in the market has consequently fallen, the Daily Mail report that Monaco are willing to accept a cut-price bid.
