Sterling Liverpool exit: Reds winger ‘opens door’ to Chelsea transfer this summer
Brendan Rodgers saw his side struggle to recapture the form that saw Liverpool finish runners-up in 2013/14 and clearly the exit of Luis Suarez proved a huge blow to the Anfield outfit.
The money invested in new additions, bankrolled by the funds accrued from the Uruguayan’s move to Barcelona, didn’t help matters with almost all those brought in by Rodgers failing to impress.
Understandably the sums Liverpool will hand Rodgers for summer signings will be far lower than last time around and without Champions League action to offer, the level of players the Merseyside outfit can lure will be lessened.
However the four players listed by this source could all prove very useful as Liverpool look to recover from their disastrous campaign.
Danny Ings (Burnley)
22 year old is out of contract and will only cost a nominal compensatory fee and the Clarets star proved this season that he is capable of making an impact at Premier League level. His 11 goal haul was better than any Liverpool player managed last season.
James Milner (Man City)
Another out of contract performer and an experienced campaigner who can offer Brendan Rodgers an option in a number of roles. Could be the ideal replacement for Steven Gerrard.
Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)
Belgian could be a superb option to boost the Liverpool attack and the 24 year old may well be tempted by a high-profile move to Anfield.
Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton)
Right-back could follow the likes of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren to Anfield, where he could offer the club a strong defensive option.
