Manchester United transfer rumours
Rafael Benitez best XI: Liverpool & Chelsea legends feature as Spaniard prepares for Bernabeu job
Its not that surprising as the Blues won the top flight with three games to spare after holding on to first position for the entire season. They also won the Capital One Cup in a very successful campaign for manager Jose Mourinho.
Southampton are the only other team to get more one than one player in the starting XI, but Manchester United and Arsenal both managed to have some representation.
Here is the side…
GK) David De Gea, Manchester United
The Spain international has been in great form throughout the season, and the Red Devils’ chances in the next campaign could be decided on whether they manage to keep hold of him.
RB) Nathaniel Clyne, Southampton
Only the Saints matched Chelsea’s defensive prowess, and the right-back was a big part of that. He impressed enough to become an England regular.
LB) Cesar Azpilicueta, Chelsea
The first of half a dozen Blues stars in the side, it is amazing how well the full-back does considering he was originally signed to play on the right.
CB) Jose Fonte, Southampton
From being regarded as a liability at the back by some last time round the 31-year-old has been a rock since Dejan Lovren left St. Mary’s.
CB) John Terry, Chelsea
Played in every single minute of the Stamford Bridge outfit’s title winning season, and the 34-year-old looks like has a few years left in him yet.
CM) Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea
After moving to former club Arsenal’s rivals the midfielder was brilliant until January, but tailed off in the final months.
CM) Nemanja Matic, Chelsea
Both games that the 26-year-old missed in the league were losses for the Blues, showing how important he has become.
LM) Eden Hazard, Chelsea
The PFA Player of the Season was brilliant throughout, and has a real case to be the third best footballer in the world behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
RM) Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal
What a brilliant debut season the former Barcelona man has had! If it wasn’t for his goals in the first half of the campaign the Gunners could have found it a lot harder to get in to the top four.
ST) Harry Kane, Tottenham
32 goals in 53 appearances in a breakthrough season for the 21-year-old earns him a place in the side. How he does next time round will be the real test th0ugh.
ST) Diego Costa, Chelsea
Another who has made an impact in the Premier League, but not always for the right reasons. However, on the whole the ex-Atletico Madrid ace has been a great signing for Jose Mourinho.
SUBS BENCH
Adrian, West Ham
Brilliant keeping has kept the Hammers going despite many injuries.
Ryan Bertrand, Southampton
Another member of the great Saints back line.
Santi Cazorla, Arsenal
The midfielder has been very impressive playing in both deeper and more attacking roles for the Gunners.
Yannick Bolasie, Crystal Palace
Still not the most reliable, but the winger has caught the eye with some great performances in big games.
Jordan Henderson, Liverpool
With Steven Gerrard leaving Anfield even more responsibility will fall on the shoulders of the England international next time round.
Charlie Austin, QPR
18 goals for a side which has been relegated isn’t half bad.
Sergio Aguero, Manchester City
How the top scorer doesn’t get in to the starting XI is anyone’s guess, but he’s well deserving of at least being here.
