FIFA official insists 2018 and 2022 World Cups will go ahead in Russia and Qatar despite ongoing investigations

Football’s world governing body once again tarnished.

Seven senior FIFA officials have this morning been arrested in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation but this will apparently have no bearing on the hosting of both the 2018 and 2022 World Cup finals according spokesman Walter De Gregorio.

During a FIFA press conference this morning spokesman De Gregorio was at pains to state;

“I cannot confirm the names and cannot confirm how many people have been arrested. The World Cup 2018 and 2022 will be played in Russia and Qatar.” as quoted by the BBC.

Nine football officials are among 14 indicted on corruption charges brought by the US justice department though this will also, seemingly, have no bearing on the upcoming presidential elections, with De Gregorio adding;

“Of course it (the FIFA congress vote for president) will take place, one thing has nothing to do with the other. Congress will be carried out taking into account this current procedure.”
