Jurgen Klopp to take six-month break but hasn’t ruled out Bayern Munich switch
The former Chelsea midfielder has caught the eye of a number of top clubs in Europe through his impressive performances since leaving Stamford Bridge last January. Not even Lionel Messi (23) and Cesc Fabregas (21) have been able to better the staggering 25 assists that the Belgium international has registered this term.
His inspired form in front of goal helped fire Wolfsburg to second in the Bundesliga, and subsequently seal a place in next season’s Champions League – which is only the second time the club have entered the group stages of the competition in their history. It’s also the first time they have returned to Europe’s elite since the 2009-10 campaign.
As a result, De Bruyne has seen his name linked with a return to the Premier League, as both Manchester clubs are rumoured to be considering offers of around £30m in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Wolves’ German rivals Bayern Munich are also the latest to be interested in his signature.
The 23-year-old, however, insists that no club has got in touch or made an offer, but has refused to voice his commitment to Wolfsburg; as he doesn’t know what the future has in store and admits he could ‘disappear’ in the summer.
“If Bayern are interested then they should get in touch with Wolfsburg,” as quoted by the Express.
“They will make the decision as they are responsible for my future,” he added.
“All I know about interested clubs is from reading newspapers.
“I have not spoken with any clubs as of now. However, I cannot say I’m definitely going to stay here this summer.
“I think fans are better treated when players are honest with them, rather than for me to swear my eternal love to Wolfsburg then disappear.”
