Ronaldo departed the Red Devils for the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009 for a then world record fee of £80 million, and could make a sensational comeback in the summer after his agent Jorge Mendes is reported to have held talks with United over a potential transfer.
Reports in the Express say that Mendes flew to the UK last week to discuss a deal for United keeper David De Gea and is thought to have informed the club that Ronaldo could leave Madrid in the summer.
“Jorge Mendes, when he was in Manchester, not only spoke about De Gea but also Ronaldo,” Spanish journalist Alfredo Duro is quoted by the Metro as having told Radio Marca.
The Portuguese international was once again in scintillating form during the 2014/15 season and finished the campaign as La Liga’s top scorer with 48 goals but wasn’t able to prevent Madrid from finishing the season without a trophy.
A deal for Ronaldo could end United’s interest in Gareth Bale after being heavily linked with a move for the Welsh winger when the transfer window opens in the summer.
