The Ivory Coast international has played 379 times and scored 174 goals for the Stamford Bridge outfit in two spells, and is expected to make it 380 appearances against the Black Cats. It should be a happy send off as well, with the team scheduled to lift the Premier League trophy after the match is completed.

The 37-year-old had some silverware the first time he left the Blues as well, scoring the winning penalty against Bayern Munich to give them the Champions League in 2012. However, this is unlikely to be the last fans see the striker, with him confirming that he wants to return in a non-playing role in the future.

He said: “I want to play for at least one more season and in order to play more football I feel I need to go to another club. All the fans know my love for Chelsea and I hope to be back here in the future in another role.”

Although Diego Costa and Loic Remy are fit again and usually ahead of the forward in the pecking order, it is likely that manager Jose Mourinho will either start or bring on Drogba at some point to allow him a fitting goodbye to the Stamford Bridge faithful.
