Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal hints players will be offloaded in the summer

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has warned his squad that some will be shown the exit door this summer in order to make room for fresh faces and he looks to turn the side into potential title challengers next season.

The Dutchman has already completed his first piece of business with the signing of highly-rated PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay, who will officially join the club when the transfer window opens after completing his medical on Monday.

Mirror Online reports that van Gaal has targeted more additions to improve the playing squad at Old Trafford and that is likely to result in a selection of first team players being sold:

“I think also our selection is unbalanced. We have managed to be fourth in the league, but we have to manage to be the champions.” He said.

“That is why we have to take care of the balance of the selection, but also to improve our selection, because we want to be champions.”

“So it shall be a rough summer for a lot of players, but I think a top club like Manchester United has to do that.” He added.

Two players that could be in line for departures are Robin van Persie and Angel Di Maria after it was reported in The Independent late last week that the club were considering selling the pair in order to finance a move for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.
