Last summer also showed that the Northern Irishman may not be the best at bringing in top class replacements.
So here is some help for the 42-year-old, with five options to make fans forget all about Sterling…
5) Theo Walcott, Arsenal
The Daily Mirror has already linked the England international to Anfield, and could help bring goals as well fill in on the wing. With the front line lacking pace this season, the 26-year-old could certainly help in that area. They could even get Walcott as part of a deal for Sterling with the Gunners.
4) Yevhen Konoplyanka, Dnipro
Having recently expressed regret that he didn’t join the Reds in January 2014 according to Goal.com, the 25-year-old could again be tempted to come to the Premier League. A pacy wide man with a bag full of tricks, it is yet to be seen whether the Ukrainian could transfer his Dnipro form to the higher level.
3) Roberto Firmino, Hoffenheim
With 11 goals and nine assists in 30 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season, the the 23-year-old is similar to Sterling in that Rodgers would be paying for potential rather than proven quality. The Metro thinks the Brazilian could be on his way to the red half of Merseyside, and he can play down the middle as well out wide in the same way as the man he could replace.
2) Ezequiel Lavezzi, PSG
A World Cup finalist with Argentina, the Daily Express believes that the 30-year-old could be on his way to Anfield. With pace and ability on the counter-attack, he could fit well in to the system that Rodgers is implementing with the Reds.
1) Pedro, Barcelona
Sidelined by the unbelievable attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez at the Camp Nou, Liverpool could pounce according to the Liverpool Echo. Not being overshadowed by the brilliant talents on display at Barca could bring out the best in the Spain international.
