Arsenal are considering a cash-plus-player bid for the highly-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho as manager Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his squad ahead of a potential title challenge next season, according to talkSPORT.

The Portugal international has developed a reputation as a tough tackling central midfielder and is seen by many as the ideal signing to add much needed power to the Gunners squad, but they could face strong competition from rivals Manchester United, who are also interested in the youngster as Mirror Online revealed last month.
Wenger was reportedly interested in the 22 year-old last summer but balked at the huge asking price of £31million but is understood to now be willing to do business with the Portuguese outfit and could offer Joel Campbell as part of a deal this summer.
The Costa Rica international struggled for game time in North London at the start of the season and was sent out on loan to La Liga outfit Villarreal in January, but his lack of improvement could see him used as makeweight in a deal to bring Carvalho to the Emirates.
