The England international has had a torrid time with injuries this season, missing large chunks of the 2014/15 campaign due to niggling problems, and he may now miss the start of next term as well.

Sturridge had been in New York this week to undergo specialist treatment to get to the bottom of his problems, but it looks like bad news for all concerned at Anfield as manager Brendan Rodgers loses one of his best players to another long layoff.

According to the Daily Mirror, it will be around four months until Sturridge can even return to training, despite being treated by one of the top surgeons in New York.

This is another blow for Liverpool after news yesterday that Manchester United pipped them to the signing of Memphis Depay.
