The France international has broken into the first team this season, even playing ahead of Gary Cahill in the heart of the defence at times. His performances have led to fans seeing him as the future of the club, with John Terry not getting any younger at 34-years-old. However, in recent weeks he has had to either fulfil a role in central midfield or has found himself on the substitutes’ bench.
This could be why the Serie A side think they have a chance of swooping for the 20-year-old. Blues manager Jose Mourinho’s debatable record of bringing youth through and the high profile departure of players such as Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku last summer could also give them hope.
It would seem that it could be an exciting opportunity for the centre-back, with the president aiming to be in the Champions League within a couple of years and looking win the Scudetto after that. Could he be tempted?
Ferrerro said: “This year I want to get into the Europa League, and then in a year or two the Champions League and win the Scudetto. After that I’ll go, because I can not do better than that.
“To win we need reinforcements and I want to reassure the fans: we will not sell, but we will strengthen in the transfer market. In defence we are trying to sign the French player Zouma from Chelsea. We like him a lot.”
