Manchester United’s signing of Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven is not only a significant message of intent on the what’s expected from the club in the 2015-16 season, but is also sign that the Red Devils are back in business, claims Guardian journalist Jamie Jackson.

Manchester United confirm signing of Memphis Depay
The Premier League giants made an enquiry over the Netherlands winger in April, Sky Sports reported, and less than three weeks later Manchester United confirmed, via their official Twitter account, that a deal had been agreed – all before the summer transfer window even opens.
Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, the Red Devils’ transfer business has been questionable, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward coming in for criticism for failing to be decisive in the market since the end of the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
However, Jackson believes that the Depay deal signifies a return to the transfer methods of former manager Sir Alex – and their rivals should therefore be fearful.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he said, “This sort of shows really how United are getting back to how they were under [Sir Alex] Ferguson – doing their business quick and early.
“Ed Woodward has had a year or so to settle into the transfer business and he has got a manager there now who is decisive. David Moyes maybe wasn’t the most decisive manager,” he added.
“I think if you are a United fan and United watcher you have to be impressed with this.”
The fee is reportedly worth £25m, and, subject to a medical and the opening of the summer transfer window, the Eredivisie Dutch league’s top scorer will be swapping the Philips Stadion for the Theatre of Dreams.
