(Video highlights) Leicester City 1-3 Chelsea: Blues old guard put Mourinho’s men within one win of the title
In-form Chelsea midfielder to refuse new contract signing
The former England international now needs just one goal to hold the title himself. The 34-year-old has had fifteen seasons to rack up his goals, and with only one other current player in the top five could well be the record holder for some time.
Here is the current top five after Terry netted against the Foxes…
5) William Gallas, 25 goals
Another former Stamford Bridge man, but the centre-back also played for Tottenham and Arsenal. It is perhaps surprising that the Frenchman is high in the standings, not being a set piece taker or thought of as a prolific header of the ball.
4) Leighton Baines, 26 goals
A free-kick and penalty specialist, the left-back also has the most assists in the Premier League by a defender. However, with spot kick duties being taken by Romelu Lukaku in recent times it may be a while before the 30-year-old adds to this tally.
3) Ian Harte, 28 goals
The 37-year-old could be back in the Premier League with Bournemouth next season, but most of his goals came while at Leeds United. Another great set piece specialist, and also another left-back.
=1) John Terry, 38 goals
With at least another season still to come form the Blues hero, who knows how many Terry could end up with. Is the Chelsea legend the best defender ever in the division?
=1) David Unsworth, 38 goals
With ten clubs in a varied career, the full-back is best known for his time at Everton. Unsworth’s rocket of a left boot was unstoppable from the penalty spot and dangerous from further out as well.
